Treatment philosophy

I have worked with people seeking to find clarity, recovery, vitality, and purpose in their lives for over 18 years.

I integrate a range of styles of therapy in my work with clients and tailor each session to the individual. At the core of my practice of therapy is our working relationship. In all relationships, including my professional ones, I practice clear, compassionate, non-judgmental, and non-violent communication and relating. The therapeutic relationship is a place for us to better understand your lifestyle and what is and is not helping you live as a person you feel proud of. I deeply believe in approaching therapy from the perspective that we are all doing the best we can to cope with the resources we presently have access to. Sometimes, those resources are sufficient and work in the short- and long-term. Sometimes, they only work in the short-term and we need more options. If you’re interested, I would like to help you find new ways of being, thinking, and feeling so you can move through the world in service of our collective wellbeing.

Speaking of collective wellbeing: a cornerstone of my philosophy of therapy is based in hearing and amplifying the voices and perspectives of people who are regularly excluded and marginalized in our society. I incorporate theory and knowledge about psychology, therapy, and the world from people with these lived experiences into my practice. I invite you to ask me more about this approach to therapeutic work when we speak.

I have been described as grounded, accepting and inclusive, curious, warm, easy to talk to, self-aware, and balanced in my approach to being with clients. I like to think I’m funny, hopefully you will, too. If not, feel free to let me know! I’m committed to being honest and direct with you and hope we can make an agreement to share that commitment in service of your overall well-being.
